 Statement

Have visual arts ever been autonomous of politics and power? Do the art institutions control the relationship between people and art? How could one research those questions in relation to the social aspects of observation, the gaze and the spectacle?

In my practical research I try to deal with these theoretical concerns, by a “strict” aesthetical approach. Repetition, transparency, geometry, integration, control, illusion, color absence, form the basic questions in my practice research. I am attracted by the trivial and “light” materials, commonly used in our everyday lives, but without gaining our attention, such as paper, fabric, salt, balloons, ice and other. What interests me is finding the “materials' breakpoints”, potential, materiality, ways to control or follow their reactions and through them create temporary installations and sculptures. Those installations could either create object based aesthetic environments, either environments that could enhance, shelter and reflect open discussions, dialogue or debates.
